Some of my writing fits into a bucket that’s similar to what I typically send out… but also different. Snapshots of memory; initial drafts and untied loose ends; questions; new voices and styles; quick notes and addendums. I want to show it to other humans, and my paid subscribers feel like the right audience.
If you'd like to receive this kind of thing, or if you just generally want to support what I'm doing, please become a paid subscriber!
Also, if you'd like access to paid content but paying isn't an option for you, just let me know. I'll be happy to set you up for free.
“It’s okay to not be okay.”
You hear that a lot these days, partly because for the last few years, mental health has been having a moment.
It’s a nice thing to say. Really. I mean, living as though we don’t feel pain, as facades of what’s real, as though there are those among us who have it all together and the rest of us just need to get with the program… this is not useful. It’s good to denormalize wearing masks around each other.
But.
For me, these words and the sentiment behind can be a trap. Blink, and they’ll fall into step with a nasty old habit that I don’t have much use for.
